Fees

Fees

Our firm establishes a relationship of trust with its clients.

From the first appointment, our members inform you about the terms and conditions of invoicing fees, explaining the procedures, costs, and foreseeable disbursements.

In accordance with our ethical rules, except in cases of emergency or force majeure, a fee agreement is drawn up.

Depending on the type of assignment you wish to entrust to us and its complexity, the firm can offer you one of these 3 methods of setting our fees:

  • Time-based fees
  • Fixed-price fees
  • Fixed fees accompanied by a fee based on results

Under certain conditions, the fees owned to the firm may be covered, either in whole or in part, by the client’s insurance company, as part of a legal protection contract. It is common for civil liability insurance or home insurance contracts to include clauses providing for the financial coverage of lawyers’ fees in the event of a claim or dispute. If the client benefits from legal protection, the sums paid by his insurer will be deducted from the sums due to the Firm.

The firm will charge provisions during the execution of its work.

Taxes, fees and expenses

Fees are subject to tax obligations, including value added tax (VAT), which is not included in the fees. VAT in France is 20% on the prices offered, and 21% in Spain.

The costs of the case (opening, right of pleading, travel, delivery of documents to the client, closing) and the fees of other professionals (notarized power of attorney in the event of a dispute in Spain, applicant, solicitor, translator, expert, accounting agent, real estate agent, etc.) are not included in the fees of our firm and will be advanced by the client as the case progresses.

As the lawyer’s obligation is one of means and not of result, the client is informed of the possibility that the action will be unsuccessful, and of the risk of being ordered to pay the costs and fees of the opposing party.

International Lawyers’ Fees

At our law firm, we understand that one of the most important aspects for our clients is to have clarity regarding lawyer fees. Fees not only depend on the type of case or the legal area but also on the complexity of the matter and the time required for each situation. There are different types of fees that can be adjusted to the needs of each client, allowing for greater flexibility and predictability in legal costs. Below, we will explain the main types of lawyer fees that we handle at our firm, so that you can have all the information you need when making a decision.

Types of Lawyer Fees

In the legal field, there are various ways to structure lawyer fees, depending on the type of case, its complexity, and the client’s needs. It is essential for the client to be aware of the different options available in order to choose the one that best suits their situation. Below, we outline the main types of lawyer fees that we offer at our firm, each with its characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages.

Time-based Fee (Hourly Rate)

This type of lawyer fee is based on the actual time the professional dedicates to the case. In this model, clients pay a fee for each hour of work the lawyer invests in their matter. The hourly rate varies depending on the lawyer’s specialization, experience, and the complexity of the case. This type of fee is ideal for cases where the duration is uncertain, or where continuous legal consultations are required over time.

Advantages:

  • Clarity in the cost per hour.
  • Flexibility in the duration of the service.

Disadvantages:

  • Difficulty in estimating the total cost from the beginning.

Fixed Fee

The fixed fee is a predetermined amount agreed upon before starting the case. This type of lawyer fee is commonly used in cases where the duration and complexity of the process are more predictable, such as in drafting contracts, wills, or legal advice for specific procedures. The client knows from the start how much they will pay, offering greater peace of mind and cost predictability.

Advantages:

  • Fixed and predictable cost.
  • Ideal for simple cases or those with controlled duration.

Disadvantages:

  • Does not adapt if the case becomes more complicated or prolonged.

Mixed Fee: Fixed + Result-Based

In some cases, we use a mixed fee model, which combines a fixed portion with a result-based fee. This means that a fixed fee is charged for the initial services provided, and an additional percentage is added if a favorable result is achieved for the client. This type of fee is mainly used in litigation and claims, where the success of the case can directly influence the lawyer’s remuneration.

Advantages:

  • Additional incentive for the lawyer to seek a favorable result.
  • Part of the payment is contingent on success.

Disadvantages:

  • Not always applicable, especially in non-contentious cases.

How Lawyer Fees Are Calculated

The calculation of lawyer fees can vary depending on different factors, such as the type of case, the estimated time to resolution, the lawyer’s specialization, and the standard market rates. At our firm, we are transparent from the outset, providing a clear estimate of costs based on a preliminary evaluation of the case. Additionally, we consider the possibility of adjusting the fees to the client’s circumstances, offering flexible payment options when necessary.

Factors That Influence Lawyer Fees

Several factors influence a lawyer’s fees, including:

  • Case complexity: More complex cases, such as prolonged litigation or advice in specialized legal areas, often require more time and resources.
  • Lawyer’s experience and specialization: Lawyers with more experience or specialization in complex areas tend to charge higher fees.
  • Geographic location: Legal costs can vary significantly depending on the region where the service is provided.
  • Duration of the process: Cases that are resolved more quickly tend to be less expensive than those requiring prolonged follow-up.

At our firm, we believe in the importance of transparency and clear communication regarding lawyer fees.
